Northeast Oklahoma's long autumn continues. We've had a few cold spells but lately the temps have been in the 40's at night and low 70's during the day. Perfect weather as far as I am concerned. Our trees are still putting on a color show as well.

A place to enjoy skies and views from all around the globe. Skywatch is only as good as the people who post here. It is a "not for profit, not for awards" fun place to post and link from. Simply take a picture which includes the Sky, post that picture on your blog and then come here and put your preferred name and link in the relevant places. Try to visit others on the links, those at the beginning and the end.

I love autumn even though here in Oklahoma we don't get the pretty colors with the maples like other areas. We get the rust colors from the oaks, some yellow colors and maybe a little better color from invasive trees. The grass turns from green to brown and then gray for the winter. Plus as you can tell from the photo, lots of our woods are pretty scraggily looking. Tornadoes and very high winds will do that! I still love fall though. Warm days, cool nights, dry weather. Yep, sign me up.
And I like looking at your fall photos or your spring photos if you are in the southern hemisphere.

Skywatch Friday - First Skywatch of Fall 2025 Edition
Earlier this week we had the first day of northern hemisphere fall. Fall is my favorite time of year and it lasts a long time, especially with global warming. We'll have mild days going into early December, which is kind of ridiculous, but I'll take it. I love the warm days and cool nights. It gets cool enough long enough and the snakes go into their dens to brumate, and the spiders go away as well.

This gigantic soda pop bottle is at Pops located just west of Arcadia, Oklahoma at combo gas station, pop store, and diner named Pops. Those of you familiar with the Denver Airport know that it is way out in the middle of nowhere. It also has some great skies. I captured this on a flight with a layover in Denver some years back. I took it through the window of the jet I was on. It looks like a big storm was coming!!

This is the Teton Mountains of Wyoming from the Idaho or west side of the Mountain. Not quite as spectacular as from Jackson Hole on the east side, but still pretty nice. Plus since southeast Idaho is pretty flat you can see the mountains from quite a ways away. I could see them from my parents driveway in Idaho Falls, Idaho which was at least 60 miles away. My parents are gone now so I don't get up there to see the sights and I miss it.

The Arkansas River as it flows through Tulsa as it looked ten years ago. Nowadays things are spruced up and it doesn't look so scruffy. The good thing about scruffy is there are lots less people around. It's like a zoo on Tulsa's riverfront now during peak times on the weekend. To a retired guy like me who can go anytimes he wants, it still very nice.
I'm going to be a little out of touch the next couple weeks so I won't be visiting blogs as much as I usually do.

This is a scene from a 5K run that I participated in years ago sponsored by the Muskogee Creek Nation Tribe at their headquarters in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. If you watched the show "Rez Dogs" most of the scenes were shot in and around Okmulgee. I had just turned 60 years old a few months before this and I ended up winning my age group and got a cool coffee mug for that athletic feat. It would be rude for you to ask if there were any other runners in my age group.

This is what our front yard used to look like. We had two pear trees in the front yard for years. They are not Bradford Pears, I forget what kind they are. Pretty but when they bloomed they stunk plus they were bad for the allergies. I remember the first time that my Forest Ranger dad visited us in our new home. We picked him up at the airport and when we pulled into the driveway he said, "Those are two crappy looking trees, Alan." (You can tell where I got my silver tongue from right.) The problem is that the trees are weak. They branch a lot and the branches are weak points. They eventually split apart. We still haven't replaced them yet. I'm good with that, the grass does better without the trees.

This is a locomotive parked as an exhibit at the Tulsa Fairgrounds. It spent it's working life deep in the forests of Southeast Oklahoma pulling lumber trains for a logging company. This photo was taken ten years ago, since then, a group of retired railroad company employees have taken it over and really spruced it up. They are looking for a new home for it. I love old train stuff, what can I say! I worked for a short time for the oil and gas sub of Union Pacific Railroad. They still send me their railroad calendar every year and I love it.

Another photo from yesteryear, February 2015. A reminder that back in the day when I worked I used to run the trails at Turkey Mountain at night. I carried a headlamp and a hand light and ran all over that mountain for miles in the dark. There were a few times where I didn't know where I was but I never got lost! (figure that one out). I tripped and fell a few times which hurt.
I have knee surgery coming up early next week (falling on the mountain at night didn't help.) I am preparing next week's SWF post this week so it should be good to go at the usual time next Thursday, the 20th.
