Hold on everybody, we are almost through all the various holidays. Now we got the big one coming up, New Year's Eve!! Party, party, party, right? You go right ahead and party if you want. I'll be home in my pajamas streaming something with my family and pets. I may not even stay up long enough to see the ball drop! At least here in Tulsa we can see it at 11 pm local time. There is a local brewery here that is sponsoring a New Year's Eve Noon celebration. That is more my speed. New Year's eve during the day I'll probably be hiking if the weather is any good at all and New Year's Day I will be helping the Tulsa Urban Wilderness Coalition on an event on our fabulous Turkey Mountain here in Tulsa.
I wish everybody a safe New Year's Eve and a Healthy and Prosperous 2023.

It's a busy time of year right now. Christmas is almost here and much of the USA is being hit by a "Bomb Cyclone." I hope everybody preserves time for themselves and their families and loved ones. That's what counts not running to and fro getting "stocking stuffers" and such as that. To those that celbrate Christmas, I say Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays to everone else. Thank you for your participation in Skywatch Friday. I appreciate it.

Skywatch photos have such huge variety. Some are anticipated and the photographer sets up ahead of time and waits for the perfect moments. Others like this one, you see when you get out of your car on a shopping trip and you notice the sunset and you snap off a shot or two because all of us skywatchers know that with color on sunsets and sunrises it's all about the now. You might only have seconds to take the shot before the sky turns gray. And of course when you take the shot you may end up with all sorts of "culture," overhead lines, parking lot lots, cars, businesses, buildings. Stuff like that seldom bothers me. It's part of where I live.
Part of what I love about Skywatch Friday is the huge variety of photos that participants post. Deserts, mountains, cities, villages, farms and more are presented and I love them all. I appreciate all who participate!

This is supposedly the World's Biggest Totem Pole" in Foyil, Oklahoma just off Route 66. My son and I visited the place ten years ago this month. I loved the place; son was "heh." Oh well.

Today is the United States version of Thanksgiving where we gather with friends and family and give thanks for our many blessings. I wish many blessings and good health to everyone for the coming year.

Welcome to another edition of Skywatch Friday. I hope everybody is doing well. I appreciate the participation. Photobloggers are very nice and we occupy a genteel corner of the internet. I'm glad we are keeping it that way.

Tulsa Veterans Day Parade 2009
Welcome to another edition of Skywatch Friday. This Friday is Veterans Day in the US. Tulsa has a pretty big and very nice parade every year. Back in the day, when I worked, I could just leave my office building and watch it from the sidewalk. It was always very uplifting to see our Veterans honored. Really though, don't we honor everybody who fought for freedom for their country?

An end of the day sunset from back in my working days.
Here it is early November and in Tulsa the temperature is going to 80F!! Tshirt and shorts are the clothes of the day.
I hope everybody is doing okay!!

Welcome to another edition of Skywatch Friday. A big Thank You to all who participate. Autumn is my favorite season. In northeast Oklahoma we get great weather for months during Fall. Halloween is a great holiday. You don't have to buy anybody anything, the weather is still good, and nobody feels sad for you if you can't make it home for the holiday.

This week our family is on vacation. Hopefully I'll have some connectivity and can participate with everybody else. If not, I'll see you when I can!! Maybe I'll have some more beach skywatch photos like above.
Thursday, October 13, 2022
I just love autumn. In Oklahoma it is very long and is the state's best season. Warm days, cool nights, can't beat it.
Our family is going on vacation soon. I'll have SWF set up for next Thursday as usual. I may not be visiting as much while we are gone but I'll be back! We are going to the beach so hopefully I'll have all sorts of nice Skywatch photos.

Hey, we all made it through September!! Now for October. Autumn is Oklahoma's best season. It lasts a really long time, at least through Thanksgiving and often beyond. Very nice mild weather. I love it. What is your favorite season?

Another week, another skywatch. We have had a heat dome over Oklahoma for some time. That means pretty blue skies but kind of boring. Hey I'll take boring. Thank you for participating!!

Goodbye Summer, hello Fall is all I have to say. Summer 2022 turned out to be be flaming hot and dry. For some areas like California the flaming part is real. I'm hoping that everybody has a great fall (or spring to you folks in the southern hemisphere.)

A view of west Tulsa from a month ago when isolated rainstorms came through town. I have to say I appreciate all who participate in Skywatch Friday. It's part of the photoblogger internet which is gentle and supportive of each other with none of the drama (except for striking photos of course) that characterize some of social media and the news and opinion sites.

This is the monarch waystation on Tulsa's Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area. I volunteered to water it this past year. So when there is no rain for several days I show up and string about three long hoses together and water it for 30 to 60 minutes depending on how hot it is, how much it has rained recently, etc. We plant only native plants so I look at my job as supplementing nature. I am just trying to keep the plants from dying. So far I have seen one monarch butterfly and a whole lot of swallowtails and loads of bees, hornets, and wasps. I've talked to lots of curious people and sprayed water on a few very hot mountain bikers who stopped. It's been fun! It goes on year round. I'm just glad the plants haven't died. There is an event called Monarchs on the Mountain later this month. I'd feel terrible if all the plants had died!

Summer is over in a lot of ways. Kids are back in school here in Oklahoma. Traffic has increased, time to be bear down. Unless of course if you are retired, so my trails and paths through the woods are pretty much deserted during the week. Suits me fine!! We still have lots of warm days ahead of us.

The weather turned cool on Wednesday which is good in a way because many of the schools here in Oklahoma are starting up. Wouldn't want the youngsters in school when it is sunny and dry outside, right? Best that it be drizzly and cool so they can concentrate on their studies. I swear, when I was a kid, the greatest day of the year was the day they let school out for the summer. The worst day was generally about the second week after classes started. The teachers had enough of us by then so no more smiles and indulgences the rest of the year. I will admit I had pretty good teachers except for my first grade teacher in Payson, Arizona. Julia Randall, I had her in like her 46th year of over a 50 year teaching career. She literally started teaching before Arizona was a state. She was the one who invented shock and awe. Sorry, I digress but as you can tell, 61 years later, I am still traumatized by the start of my academic career.

We had a break from the hot weather. Several days of rain and low temperatures!! It was great, our brown grass greened up and I got a chance to cut it, and here I am four days later and it needs cut again. Is there any way we can have green grass that doesn't grow or need watered? Check on that and then check back with me. And I don't want to hear about astroturf, indoor/outdoor carpet or any of that.
Seriously though I have decided to just roll with the weather. I don't want to spend all my time inside so I just make allowances and go do outside what I normally want to do, just avoiding the hottest part of the day and taking lots of water. Do you roll with your weather? How do you do it?

The summer solstice has happened and it is hot and dry here in Oklahoma. Of course we don't complain. It is Oklahoma after all. It'll cool down the second week of September, maybe. I don't really mind the heat too much. I have got used to it.

Years ago, my father and I tracked down Geronimo's grave out in the middle of nowhere on the sprawling US Army Base at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. We got there right at the last light of day.
The Apache chief Geronimo was born on June 16, 1829 in what is now Arizona. He died February 17, 1909 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He fought the United States and Mexican Armies for years. He finally surrendered in 1886 and spent the rest of his life as a prisoner of war under some pretty loose restrictions. Check out more here.

A "Cowboy Church" in Antlers, OK USA
Here in the United States, summer is generally meant to start the week after Memorial Day at the end of May. School is out, the swimming pools open, and families start hitting the road for vacations and reunions. Gasoline over $5 a gallon is going to put a damper on that but we are flying free after two plus years of lockdowns and staying home.
I hope everybody is safe out there. I'm continuing to think about Ukraine under the brutal invasion. I'm also praying that the USA can come to some sort of measures to help prevent mass murder. Enough is enough. A couple hours after I put this post together (on Wednesday) we had a mass shooting event here in Tulsa at a hospital with four innocents murdered and the shooter killed himself.

May in the great plains of the USA, interesting weather ahead!! Take care and make sure you know what is going on!!
Next week I'll be out of touch. The family is taking a little break from everything. I am setting up next week's SWF post so that should be fine. I hope everybody out there is doing a little self care!! Very important in these divisive times. I'm so thankful for the gentle corner of the world occupied by photobloggers.

A pond with ducks on Tulsa's Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area
I got up this morning and instead of going to my regular Thursday morning yoga class I decided to go on a bike ride. Yesterday was an errand day and I was really wanting some outside time and it has been hot so I needed to go in the morning because I am a pansy like that. I was on the incoming leg of my ride and my thoughts ventured to Skywatch Friday and then it struck me. That's today!!! I guess in these hot hazy days my mind got a little hot and hazy as well so I hurried on back to the car, came home, showered and sat down to the computer. I'll have this done with about 10 minutes to spare. It's been a while since I missed a post and I don't want to start now.

Cindo de Mayo (May 5th) is a holiday in Mexico celebrating their army's victory of the French Army at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It is not Mexico's Independence Day, that is on September 16, 1810. Strangely enough, I read that Cinco de Mayo may be more popular in the USA than in Mexico.

April is almost over but the evenings and many days are still cooler than what seems normal. Oh well, it's Oklahoma. It will be hot and humid here soon enough.
Thank you for participating. I love that photoblogs are still the peaceful, amiable, and supportive parts of the internet. Thank you everybody for helping to keep it that way. I think it is important to keep everything chill here.

Spring continues to be wet, windy, and cool here in Oklahoma. I am supposed to be watering a monarch waystation at a park here in Tulsa but I have not had to do anything in weeks.
Continuing to send thoughts and prayers for peace for the Ukranians as the Russian invasion pivots to a new objective.

It's Saint Patrick's Day this year. And guess what I do not have one single photo that has anything to do with the day. Shameful thing for a blogger to admit to I know. But I do have lots of sky photos, and so do you!! So enjoy the day.
And thoughts and prayers to the Ukranians suffering under a brutal invasion from Russia.

March is so changeable in Oklahoma. Last week I activated our sprinkler system and planted wildflower seeds on a monarch waystation. This week it's been below freezing and we are supposed to get snow tomorrow and bitter cold so I have rewinterized our irrigation system and making sure I know where my coats and gloves are. It'll warm up eventually, right?

Wow, lots of things going on the last week. Here in the US we had the Super Bowl with a great game, and the Winter Olympics are going on. I love the winter Olympics. The athletes are putting on a great show. What they do just amazes me. Sure I like the see the USA athletes compete but I applaud all the athletes from everywhere for all the work they put into what they do. And then Valentines Day!! I hope everybody remembered!!
Thursday, February 10, 2022
We are on the downside of winter, I just can just feel it. The days are getting longer, the sun is a little higher in the sky, the light is changing in so many ways. It's going to be cold for quite a while longer but sometime in March it will break. Here in Oklahoma we say about March "In like a Lion, out like a Lamb."
I hope everybody is healthy and doing well. We seem to be on the back side of hte Omicron variant. I don't want to see any more variants.

Much of the USA got hit by a storm recently including Oklahoma. We took advantage of a few nice days before the storm to go hiking. I hope everybody is safe and warm. I appreciate our southern hemisphere bloggers who post photos of their summer vacations. I always kind of wonder how flat earth people explain that? But never mind. I appreciate everybody's participation and interaction.
