Skywatch Friday - Christmas 2019 Edition

DSCF9501
Tulsa's  Holiday Tree for our Winter Festival.

I know Christmas Day is over but to me Christmas is a season and I love the time after Christmas lots more than the before. All the busy busy rush rushing is over and the vibe is relaxed. All that being said, I hope that everybody who celebrates it, had a great Christmas.

Skywatch Friday - 12 December 2019 Edition

DSCF9487
Solar Powered Horse Barn at New Life Ranch, a summer camp in northeast Oklahoma

Welcome to another edition of Skywatch Friday. The skies in Oklahoma are kind of steel gray these days. The light is flat and bright most days. I hope that those who celebrate are getting ready for Christmas. So far, here in Oklahoma we have not had bitterly cold weather except that it has been cold enough to knock the ticks and chiggers down and put the snakes into inactive mode. That is a great thing for those of us who like to get out into the woods.

Skywatch Friday - 5 December 2019 Edition

Another week of Skywatch Friday. Thank you so much for participating. I hope everybody is ready as those of us who celebrate Christmas are getting very busy despite admonishments to slow down and reflect. I am trying to but life keeps intervening, both real life and blogger life when the linky tool blew up earlier this week when I was trying to set up this week's SWF post. It seems like it is working now.

Skywatch Friday - Thanksgiving 2019 Edition

Thanksgiving Skywatch It's that time of year in the USA, Thanksgiving where we gather with family and friends and give thanks for all our blessings. I hope that it is a great day for you. Lets also remember all those who cannot celebrate that day because of work, illness, or isolation.

Skywatch Friday - Halloween 2019 Edition

_DSC0552

We had a very nice weekend and I got to spend some time hiking a taking photos like the one above at Tulsa's Oxley Nature Center. Then things got crappy, wet, nasty, and cold for a couple days now. Oh well, we are plunging into winter. Fine with me, its killing the chiggers and ticks and the snakes should be quiet and hidden and the brush in the woods died back quite a bit. I love all the seasons, each of them offers something different. As we head into winter I love looking at the posts of those who live in the southern hemisphere because they are heading into summer. I'm a little jealous actually.

  PICT0821

And it is Halloween. I love Halloween, what a great holiday. The weather is still pretty good, you don't have to buy anybody anything, and nobody feels sorry for you if you spend it alone. A little bit sad for us. Our son is away to college so we'll probably not hand out any candy. Son loved Halloween. He was about two in the photo above. Now he is twenty two. I hope everybody has a great week.

Neighborhood
A recent scene from my neighborhood.

We are getting deeper into autumn and the days are getting shorter but we still have daylight savings time so the mornings are getting darker. We have two more weeks of this and then we revert to regular time so kids won't have to wait for the bus or walk to school in the dark. Off we go into winter!!

Welcome to Skywatch Friday where bloggers from all over the world post their best pics of the skies where they live or travel. Join in! We start every Thursday at 12:30 PM and keep going for seven whole days until the next edition starts.

Skies 01

The weather is always exciting to watch this year. Us in the northern hemisphere are watching summer slide away, some of us saw it slide away weeks ago and we in Oklahoma are still running our air conditioners. In the southern hemisphere, they are looking forward to spring and then summer. You see it all here on Skywatch Friday, a friendly corner of the interwebs.

Skywatch Friday - First Skywatch of Autumn 2019

River2 - sunset

Okay, Summer is over, and Autumn has started, although many of us in the more southern part of the USA are calling it "Hotumn." We are still running our air conditioners but the weather has toned down to where it is pleasant to sit outside in the evenings and watch the sunset. I hope everybody is doing well. I am looking forward to seeing what everybody has for us this week.

Skywatch Friday - 19 September 2019 Edition

Untitled

We are in the middle of September headed full blast to October and Autumn, cold weather and all the rest. Oh well, we still have the sky. Here in Tulsa I know that we are getting to Autumn when the setting sun starts lining up with the east-west streets. The woman behind me was honking as the light was green but I had a picture to take. You get it, right? I'll try and clean the windshield next time.

Skywatch Friday - Remembering 9-11 Edition

Bixby 9/11 Memorial
A steel support member from one of the World Trade Center buildings now on display at Washington Irving Park in Bixby, Oklahoma.

This week we remember the attacks  on 11 September 2001 when 2977 innocent people were murdered by Al-Qaida terrorists. A lot has happened since then but suffice to say that the world is a completely different place now than it was then.

I'm glad that I am associated with a group like Skywatch Friday, a peaceful, supportive corner of the internet that draws people together. We need lots more of that now more than ever.

Skywatch Friday - 5 September 2019 Edition - First Post Summer Skywatch

Labor Day is the traditional effective end of summer in the USA. Summer vacations are over, kids are at school, and mom and dad are buckled down laboring away earning money trying to pay for the vacations and summer camps.

  Untitled

But hey the weather is still warm and a little drier, the childless and empty nesters can now venture out and enjoy the off peak pricing and crowds at many places. So for everything there is a season.

The end of August has found us in Tulsa with high temperatures and humidity, rainstorms and great skies!! And it is very green here, usually the vegetation is all bleached out by this time of year.

Getting toward the end of July and the end of summer is coming in fast, so get your vacations in now! Unless you don't have kids in which case wait until the kids are in school. We are taking our family vacation late this week so I've prepared two SWF posts. I'll have my laptop with me so if something goes awry, I can fix it.

Skywatch Friday - Mid July Edition

It is the middle of July and the heat and the humidity have collided in Oklahoma! I don't know about you but I haven't mowed our yard in a couple of weeks and my neighbors have both mowed theirs so the heat is on me, so to speak. I guess that it is time for me to step up and get it done. I'd rather go hiking of course.

Welcome and thank you for participating in Skywatch Friday, a great community of bloggers. I hope that I can join you this week. I have all my 72,000+ photos on it except for a few I keep on my pc. Oh well, I guess we will find out how resourceful I am.

Skywatch Friday - 27 June 2019 Edition

DSCN9557

Many apologies for being late today. Also many people are having trouble adding their thumbnail. I emailed Brent at LinkyTools and he says that he is having a problem but is working on it:

"Here's the issue... the site has over 18K old  users with 9+ MILLION old image files. So it is really bogging the system down. I am in the process of spring cleaning the old users and files. I have no idea how long it will take (a few days) and I apologize for whatever inconvenience and aggravation it causes. I'm working hard to resolve it. Linky Tools has run very smoothly for many years... I hope to have this cleared up as fast as possible.
Brent"

So anyway the problem should be resolved soon. I appreciate your patience.

Skywatch Friday - 13 June 2019 Edition

Tulsa Tough 2019

The weather has calmed down quite a bit in Tulsa. The Arkansas River is still in its banks and the rains and storms we've had although frequent have not been widespread or severe. So life has been good except for the many people who are cleaning up and rebuilding after the floods.

Thank you for participating! We start every Thursday at 12:30 Tulsa time (USA Central DST) and stay open all week until the next edition. So you are never late!!

Thursday, June 6, 2019

Skywatch Friday 6 June 2019

Untitled

Welcome to Skywatch Friday!! I hope you have had some good sky viewing this past week. Here in Tulsa, the rains gave us a break and with decreased inflows the Corps of Engineers were able to drastically lower the water discharge rate which made the Arkansas River level decrease by a bunch. So now the flooding is over, and the cleanup begins. I know other areas of the country have had it just as bad or worse than here. For now, I am enjoying the dry weather although we are going to have three days of rain starting tomorrow. I appreciate you participating. We start every Thursday at 12:30 PM US CDST and keep it open straight through to the next week.

Skywatch Friday - 30 May 2019 Edition

DSCN9466

Welcome to Skywatch Friday and thank you for participating. Sorry about the delayed start last week. We took a trip to see family and I didn't set the linky up correctly. I appreciate your patience.  Anyway, here in Oklahoma the weather has been crazy. Lots of tornado alerts, and some major flooding in Tulsa and downstream to Muskogee and clear into the Fort Smith, Arkansas area. Our family is fine and our house is high and dry but we remember those who are not so fortunate. I hope that you and your family are doing well.

We start off every week at 12:30 CDST USA and keep it open until the following edition starts so join in anytime. Check in anytime as well. There are lots of people late in the cycle. I just love the creativity and skill of the participants in SWF. I also love that newcomers are encouraged as well. All are welcome regardless of where you are in the photographic and blogging walk.

Skywatch Friday - 11 April 2019 Edition

20190408-182214-24

Welcome to Skywatch Friday. Another week of a variety of photos by talented photographers from all over. We had our first over 80 degree day here in Tulsa this week and it was wonderful, now it is going to cold again plus the wind has been incredibly strong and gusty. Wind blowing in Oklahoma is not really big news but this is really strong. It was tugging at the little car I drive which is rare.

Skywatch Friday - 7 March 2019 Edition - Will Spring Ever Get Here!!

20190304-175447-5

We are really drawing winter out here in Oklahoma. The old saying here is that March is, "In like a lion, out like a lamb" but this is ridiculous. We have just a little bit of snow but the cold is bitter. What's up with that? I was whining about it on facebook and do you think I got any sympathy? Nope, none.

Thank you for participating and thank you for bearing with me while I deal with this new improved linky thing. The old one had a feature where you could save a setup and this one, as far as I can tell, doesn't have that. One feature I like is that the newer links go on top. So I am going to try and get that done this week.

Update on the inlinkz links. For some reason they do not seem to work for some people. Next week I will be using the Linky Toools linky. I already have a trial subscription and created a linky with it but thought it would be too confusing to have two of them the same week. Thank you for your patience.
